Animal Bead Necklaces in Fremont

You could hear the space right outside the room getting louder and louder as close to 60 people including parents waited to come in for today's craft time.  My volunteers and I were ready for a very rowdy afternoon.  As we got started, the children ages 5-10 quieted immediately and became wonderful students full of respect and attentiveness!  They had such a good time today making animal bead necklaces.  Here are the results of a very fun day!

"You're funny, and fun!" Said to me by a 9 year old at my program today.

Pet Rocks are Back!!

Pet Rocks at the Irvington Library were a huge success!  A huge group of children waited anxiously for the doors to open and to get started on their rock.  It was pandemonium for a bit getting everyone focused, paint on the pallets etc, but once they got started, it was a very creative, fun time.  Here are some very creative pet rocks.

Make Your Own Beads at the Castro Valley Library

Tweens enjoyed making their own beads today.  Pretty patterned paper, glue and lots of practice made for some very beautiful beads.  The kids had fun visiting while they worked too.  One young lady really struggled to get a bead made correctly, so I spent extra time encouraging her and working with her.  She finally figured it out and was so proud of herself!  Look at the beautiful beads they made.

Design and Bind Your Own Journal

The tweens loved this craft!  They chose paper for the outside covers of their journal, then used lots of baubles

to decorate and make the journal their own.  We finished up by them learning how to bind the journal themselves.  The kids asked when we'd do this again; so definitely a big hit!

Tie His Heart Father's Day Crafts

Moms as well as children enjoyed this craft time.  They made a card using material to create a tie and filled their card with stickers and words of love.  They also created a door knob tie for the man in their life.

Atherton's Butterfly Garden Install

Creating spaces for butterflies to exist is very important to me, especially since our butterfly population seems to shrink more with each passing year.  I was thrilled to be able to help the patrons install a butterfly garden at the Atherton Library.  I taught the adults what the best plants were to have in the garden, then had the children put all the plants into pots. The adults painted butterfly houses (yes, they are real), while the children created a 3-D butterfly to take home.  Everyone loved this program! One little boy thanked me for teaching him so much; as did the older gentleman pictured.
