Decorating Earbuds with Beads

We had a small turn out of girls for this program, but a great group of girls they were! 4th and 5th graders who didn't know one another and seemed a bit shy at first, so I sat with them and talked while showing them how to attach the beads, and drew each of them into conversation with each other. They found the craft challenging but rewarding too. Lots of laughter made the class all the more fun!  You'll notice a pair of Q-Tips in the pictures.  One young girl brought those thinking they were called earbuds.  It was so innocently adorable!  Her dad was in the library, so she was able to go with him to their car to get actual earbuds and proceed with the crafting.

Tote Bags and Drawstring Bags at Irvington

Back to back programs today at the Irvington Library.  First, the younger kids had a blast coloring in the turtle tote bags.  I love all the unique color choices, especially for the turtles.  Then, the older kids came in and designed their own drawstring bags.  It took a few minutes for them to decide what to draw, but the results show their creativity!  By the way, in the older class, I had as many tween/teen boys as I did girls.  Yes, boys love art too!

Shrinky Dinks at San Lorenzo Library

We had a good group of kids today out at San Lorenzo to make Shrinky Dink Necklaces.  The children were really excited to see their art shrivel and shrink, then enjoyed making a necklace with cording and beads.  You'll see they have artistic talent and are sweet to boot.  Thanks, Jesse, for the fun day!

Decorative Coasters at Centerville

We had a good crowd at Centerville ready to create decorative coasters using the Decoupage method.  We decided these vessels would be great for holding rings and other small items as well.  The moms are getting used to not having their children glued to their side, and actually commented on how good it feels to get a little break.  Other than explaining what to do, I didn't say much as they were so busy talking among themselves that I got to sit and enjoy that instead.  I'm trying to create a community where people can connect and make friendships while doing a craft or art piece.  I'm happy with the results!  Here's their finished pieces, and I love the creativity!

Floating Swarovski Crystal Necklaces

I so enjoy seeing many return patrons enjoying the classes at the libraries.  They've become like a family, saying hi to one another and making friendships in the time they are enjoying the craft.  They readily help one another and help me whenever I might need it.  Tonight, we made floating necklaces that was a request from a young woman.  Everyone was very excited to see the gorgeous beads and the new skills they would learn tonight.  I had a few men join us as well, and that always makes me very happy!  Look at the crowd, and the beautiful finished products.  I love my job, and the people I get to make happy along the way!

Let's Grow Lettuce at the East Palo Alto Library

We had such a good time last night!  A great group showed up to learn about growing lettuce, gardening, and then how to make two delicious salads. One with different veggies and flowers, the other with fruits and mint.  Everyone was very engaged, had lots of questions, and learned so many new things.

Family Mother's Day Frames

There was a lot of  excitement at the Niles Library as the children waited to see the craft they would be doing for their moms.  Lots of noise til I opened the first bag; then complete silence.  We adults all laughed!  The kids had a blast making their sun catcher frames for their moms, and as you can see they took a great deal of time to make their frame perfect!  I really enjoyed listening to all the chatter as these kiddos worked.
